2. Gemini — the fastest riser

DeepSeek broke the market's pricing logic: frontier-class reasoning with no paywall at all, plus open weights and an API an order of magnitude cheaper than rivals. The honest caveat: it processes data on China-based servers, which is why many companies prohibit it for work — fine for learning and personal projects, wrong for client data.
4. Claude — the professional's pick
