All three connect your apps and kill repetitive busywork — but they sit at very different points on the "easy vs. powerful vs. cheap" triangle. Here's how to pick.

Ease of use
Zapier is the most beginner-friendly by a mile — linear "when this, then that" automations and the largest app library anywhere. Make uses a visual canvas that's more powerful but takes an afternoon to learn. n8n is the most technical; it rewards people comfortable with data and logic.
Power & flexibility
The order flips here. n8n is the most flexible — branching, code steps, native AI/LLM nodes and full control. Make is close behind with its visual scenarios and is far more capable than Zapier for complex, multi-step logic. Zapier trades some power for simplicity.
Integrations
Zapier wins on sheer count (thousands of native app connections). Make has a strong and growing library. n8n covers hundreds natively and, because you can call any API, effectively anything — with a bit more effort.
AI & agents
All three now have AI steps, but n8n leans into it hardest with native LLM/agent nodes, making it a favorite for building AI workflows and agents. Make and Zapier both offer solid AI actions for mainstream use.
Pricing
| Zapier | Make | n8n | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model | Per task | Per operation | Per execution / self-host |
| Entry | Free · ~$20/mo | Free · ~$9/mo | Free (self-host) · ~$20/mo cloud |
| Best for | Non-technical | Power + value | Developers & scale |
| Ceiling | Gets pricey | Great value | Cheapest at volume |
The verdict
- Zapier — you want the simplest setup and the widest app support, and you're fine paying for it.
- Make — you want serious power at a friendlier price and don't mind a short learning curve. The best all-round value for most people.
- n8n — you're technical, want maximum flexibility (especially for AI agents), or want to self-host and control costs.
Start with Make if you're unsure — it's the sweet spot of power and price. See all options in our Automation category.
